ASTM A537 Boiler Steel
ASTM A537 boiler steel is one of heat-treated carbon manganese-silicon steel plates intended for fusion welded pressure vessels and structures. There are three class grades under this specification: A537CL1, A537CL2, A537CL3. The steel shall be killed and undergo normalization, quenching and tempering. Heat and product analyses shall be performed on the materials and results shall conform to the required values in chemical composition in carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, copper, nickel, chromium and molybdenum.
The maximum thickness of ASTM A537 boiler steel plates furnished under this specification is 4 in. [100 mm] for
A537 Class 1 and 6 in. [150 mm] for A537 Class 2 and
A537 Class 3 steel. Mechanical testing for ASTM A537 steel plates like tension test shall be done on the plates and shall conform to the required tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation.
