Incoloy 800 alloy steel material is made of nickel, iron and chromium that has superior strength and excellent resistance to oxidation and carburization in high-temperature atmospheres. High strength incoloy 800 alloy is also resistant to many aqueous environments. The incoloy 800 alloy gets its excellent resistant properties due to the presence of chromium, which also contributes in resistance to scaling and stress-corrosion cracking.
The high percentage of nickel maintains an austenitic structure so that the nickel-based incoloy 800 alloy is ductile. These features have made Incoloy 800 an effective tool in the construction of heat exchangers, process piping, nuclear steam-generator tubing, and applications where other metals and alloys would simply not stand up to the heat and moisture of the environment.The standard product forms of Incoloy 800 are pipes, tubes, sheets, rods, plates and wires among others.
High temperature and corrosive Incoloy 800 possesses more than the strength to withstand the basic stress caused by heat, though. It has high levels of resistance to oxidation and carbonization, making it one of the most effective materials for use in carbonizing equipment and heating element sheathing.
Normally used in temperatures up to 1100° F, high strength Incoloy alloy 800 is used in a variety of applications that involve exposure to high temperatures and corrosive environments. It is used for heat-treating equipment such as baskets, trays and fixtures, in chemical and petrochemical processing the alloy for making heat exchangers and other piping systems in nitric acid media and even in nuclear power plants for steam-generator tubing. Other uses of Incoloy 800 include production of paper pulp, digester liquid heaters, in making appliances for sheathing of electric heating elements and in petroleum processing for manufacturing heat exchangers.
