Performance requirements of offshore platform steel plates

Because the offshore platform is immersed in seawater all the year round, it has to withstand various harsh sea conditions. Therefore, the technical indicators of offshore platform steel plates are extremely high, not only high atmoSPHEric corrosion resistance and seawater corrosion resistance, but also good mechanical and processing properties, etc. The performance requirements for offshore platform steel plates include:

1.Offshore platform steel plates have high strength and resist the impact of wind flow above the water surface. Offshore platform steel plates have good anti-lamellar tearing ability, avoiding the tearing of steel when it is subjected to external force in the thickness direction;

2. Offshore platform steel plates have good low temperature impact performance. Some offshore platform steels need to have good impact performance at -60 °C, and can be used in extremely cold environments;

3. Offshore platform steel plates have good welding performance, and the performance of the welded joint has the same or similar mechanical properties as the base metal, ensuring the safety of the overall structure of the offshore platform;

4. Offshore platform steel plates need to have very low content of impurity elements such as P and S, and have high requirements for the shape, type and distribution of inclusions, so as to avoid fatigue failure of offshore platforms when they are affected by typhoons and water currents, and to protect life and safety.

5. Requirements for corrosion resistance. Due to the long-term exposure of marine steel structures to salt spray, moisture and seawater, severe electrochemical corrosion is caused by the erosion of seawater and marine organisms, and the paint film is prone to severe saponification and aging, resulting in very serious structural corrosion. It reduces the mechanical properties of structural materials, shortens its service life, and because it is far from the coast, it cannot be regularly repaired and maintained like ships. Therefore, the requirements for its corrosion resistance are higher.

6.In response to a series of structural component fracture disasters that occurred in marine structural facilities, the international engineering field has put forward requirements for the production and application of crack arrest performance steel plates, and relevant international standards are being formed and promoted.
