India's United Steel Ministry said SAIL must increase special steel production to meet domestic

Chaudhary Birender Singh, the head of the United Steel, said that the state-owned steel company SAIL (Steel Authority of India) must increase special steel production and value-added products to meet the growing demand in the industry.

The minister stated that SAIL has been undertaking steel manufacturing for major projects such as the United Statue, the Dora Sadia Bridge and the recently completed Bogibeel Bridge. The times are changing, the demand for special steel, high value-added steel and high-end steel is increasing, and SAIL needs to increase the output of such steel.

Statistics at the end of March 2018 show that India's annual crude steel output is 138 million tons, and the government plans to reach an annual output of 300 million tons in 2030.

SAIL Chairman Anil Kumar Chaudhary said that by 2030, the company's goal is to increase its annual production capacity from the current 21.4 million tons to 50 million tons.

The minister said that while increasing production capacity, SAIL should focus on increasing the output of special steel and high value-added products.

The steel industry is vital to the healthy development of the Indian economy, as steel is needed in areas such as automobiles, processing plants, production materials and defense equipment.

Singh also said that the Indian Railways Corporation has started bidding globally, so SAIL should increase production to meet the amount of steel used for railways. India's steel production has ranked second in the world, and now the goal is to become the world's leading high-quality steel.
