In Oct. 23, 2018, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) in Zhuhai, South China’s Guangdong Province. The HZMB is a 55-kilometre (34 mi) bridge–tunnel system consisting of a series of three cable-stayed bridges, an undersea tunnel, and four artificial islands. Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge connecting Hong Kong, Macao, and Zhuhai—three major cities on the Pearl River Delta.

With five years planing, nine years of construction, it lasts fourteen years for Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge project completion. In future,the space-time distance between Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao will be greatly shortened. From Hong Kong to Zhuhai and Macao, the driving time will be shortened from 3 hours to 45 minutes, which the western part of the Pearl River Delta is included to the three-hour driving time.
