According to foreign media reports, Austrian steel company Voestalpine said that more than half of the company's steel tariff exemption applications have been approved by the United States.
It is known that the company and its customers have submitted a total of 4,300 applications for exemption, of which 2,640 have been processed by the US government, 2,360 have been approved, and 280 have been rejected. Voestalpine issued a statement that the company's economic risks due to US tariffs have been significantly reduced. Earlier, the company also estimated that only about 3% of its income would be affected by tariffs.
At the time, the company had stated that these risks were "very manageable." The company supplies special steel products for the automotive, railway and energy industries, as well as steel strips. The company said that the tariff-exempted products are very comprehensive and involve different types of products; they are also optimistic about the exemption applications still under review. In May, the United States announced a 25% tariff on steel imports from Europe, Canada and Mexico.
