The strength of common ASTM A516 Gr.70 steel plate decreases after heat treatment after welding, especially for thick steel plate at higher temperature. For this reason, shanghai katalor industry Co., Ltd. developed normalizing state of A516 Gr.70 steel plate. In this paper, the microstructure and properties of ASTM A516 Gr.70 steel plate after thermal treatment after simulated welding with different cycles were studied.
The results show that the yield strength and tensile strength of the ASTM A516 Gr.70 steel plate decrease with the increase of the number of cycles after simulated heat treatment, and the ductile-brittle transition temperature (VTE) moves towards high temperature. The microstructure of the ASTM A516 Gr.70 steel plate after simulated post-weld heat treatment is still ferrite + pearlite banded structure, but with the increase of the number of cycles after simulated heat treatment, the grain size of ferrite increases and the pearlite layer coarser. As a result, the yield strength and tensile strength of ASTM A516 Gr.70 steel plate decreased.
