Details of the weldability of 15CrMo steel

15CrMo steel is a low-alloy steel commonly used in equipment and pipelines under high temperature and pressure environments. The following are the details of the weldability of 15CrMo steel:

1. Weldability: 15CrMo steel has good weldability and can be welded by conventional arc welding, gas shielded welding and resistance welding.

2. Welding heat affected Zone (HAZ) hardening: During the welding process, the heat affected area of 15CrMo steel will occur local heating and cooling, which may lead to hardening. Therefore, proper post-welding heat treatment is needed to eliminate the hardening of the welding heat affected zone to improve the toughness and crack resistance of the weld.

3. Preheating and post-heat treatment: For thicker 15CrMo steel plates or high-stress welds, preheating and post-heat treatment are usually required. Preheating can reduce the thermal stress and cold crack risk during welding, and the post-heat treatment can improve the mechanical properties and microstructure of the weld.

4. Welding material selection: Choosing the right welding material is crucial for the welding of 15CrMo steel. In general, select a low alloy electrode or wire similar to or matching with the substrate for welding to ensure the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the welded joint.

It should be noted that when welding 15CrMo steel, appropriate welding processes and specifications should be followed, and the necessary quality control and testing should be carried out to ensure the quality and reliability of the welded joint.
